Board Member Spotlight: Patty Schmucker, NHCCC's Board Director

While I am currently the only board member who does not live in South County, I fell in love with Brinnon, Quilcene, and the communities along the Hood Canal. These communities have extraordinary assets and, even more importantly, remarkable people devoted to building a vibrant future. My work has centered on helping businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities turn ideas and opportunities into sustainable growth. Over the years, I’ve worked across business development, economic development, education, and entrepreneurship, with a particular focus on strengthening locally owned businesses and the communities that depend on them.

What draws me to the North Hood Canal Chamber is the opportunity to help realize South County’s potential as an economic epicenter of Jefferson County. My focus on the board is helping local businesses identify the real barriers to appropriate economic growth and build the capacity to grow sustainably. That means going beyond marketing to better understand financial performance, customers, pricing, operational capacity, and the investments needed to turn increased demand into increased profitability.

The Chamber has an important role in connecting businesses with information, tools, resources, and one another. I'm excited about what we can accomplish by combining better data, stronger business support, and collaboration to build a resilient South County economy while protecting what makes these communities unique and special places to live.

Worthington Park

Worthington Park is a wedding and event venue in Quilcene that hosts numerous public and private events throughout the year. It is home to the Quilcene Historical Museum, Hamilton-Worthington House, and the Linger Longer Stage.

The house and museum feature deep and fascinating history about the south Jefferson County area, including Quilcene, Brinnon, Coyle, Dabob, and Leland. The park is used daily by locals and visitors alike as a comfortable place to walk the dog, meet friends, or just stretch your legs.

The non-profit Quilcene Historical Museum was started back in 1991 by a group of motivated citizens and former teachers. The organization has grown since those early years, and now a dedicated group of volunteers manages the grounds, buildings, and events. Fall is one of our busiest seasons with the Quilcene Fiber Festival, Halloween at Worthington Park, An Afternoon with Local Artists, and a holiday Open House rounding out our public events for the year.
